G.R.A.C.E

Guided Restoration and Collaborative Empowerment

Beloved Haven’s Jail Program, GRACE, is based in therapeutic and educational research, to the female inmates of Albemarle District Jail, Currituck County Detention Center and Dare County Detention Center. This program is a structured weekly curriculum that is trauma informed, person-centered and factually based for the purposes of educational development, individual empowerment, and personal growth. Our lessons include human trafficking, trauma, addiction, healthy relationships, and reasonable goal setting. Inmates that identify as having been sexually exploited or trafficked prior to their entry at the detention center will be eligible to receive continuous support and services from Beloved Haven. Screening measures and individual sessions are held for identifying individuals. Beloved Haven stands by these individuals throughout their legal process and continue to be a constant support upon their release.  Individuals that have not been affected by sexual exploitation or human trafficking can receive referrals for services or to agencies that are best equipped to address their needs.

The GRACE Program consists of a 5-week Curriculum:

  1. The Facts About Sexual Abuse and Exploitation

  2. Trauma and Its Effects on Your Brain and Body

  3. The Connection Between Trauma and Addiction

  4. Building Healthy Relationships and Setting Boundaries

  5. Mindfulness, Meditation, Journaling and Devotionals

GRACE also includes court advocacy when needed. The program facilitators can assist with referrals to long-term, trauma-informed transitional programs, and substance use treatment centers.

GRACE has been proven to:

  • Assist in the identification of survivors.

  • Act as a bridge between survivors and law enforcement.

  • Provide lifelong tools for coping with daily issues.

  • Provide a safe space to be heard.

  • Establish long-term relationships between advocates and survivors.

  • Reach a marginalized population of women incarcerated.

  • Meet critical needs upon release.

“We have a need for Beloved Haven to have an increased presence in our facility so victims of sexual abuse and exploitation can be identified during their incarceration and receive services. This program benefits all of the individuals participating and allows Beloved Haven to screen those who may be victims while developing trust with our population.”
